Too Much Vaginal Lubrication?

Hi Amy,

I've never really had to use much lube for myself - with a guy that turns me on I get quite wet. This is usually great for us both but too often the guy will slip out of me. I like to have fun so there's always a fair amount of tossing and turning but this doesn't seem right and it can be frustrating. Ideas?

Dear Sara-

Your frustration with constant slip-n-slide sex brings me to the same question I propose in many of my responses: do you view this as a problem, and if so, who is it a problem for? I ask this because often times people view certain aspects of their sexuality through their partners eyes, or, rather, what they assume to be the other party’s perspective. Have you discussed your concerns about your extreme wetness with your partner? If not, you may want to do this before concluding this as a problem, for you may discover your body’s natural wetness could actually be a total turn-on to someone other than yourself. If, however, you have already established this as a problem for you and/or your partner, there may be a few things you can do to help evaporate your river of arousal.

The first thing I would do is to lay down a towel before you begin to play, or keep a clean towel next to your bed (or wherever it is you like to play) so you can access it whenever you feel like you are getting “too wet”. Just a quick wipe should help to make things a little less slippery, allowing for more friction between you and your partner. If you are looking for something that will assist in decreasing the actual lubrication your body is producing, an antihistamine may do the trick. Antihistamines are generally taken for cold and allergy symptoms to prevent the production of histamines (which triggers mucus production). Because your vagina is a mucus membrane, taking an antihistamine an hour or two before you become aroused may help to create a drier environment for whatever erotic moments you may encounter.

Finally, I want to clarify that many women experience the same juicy wetness that you do. Similarly, many women who do not produce copious amounts of vaginal lubrication are probably reading this in complete envy over your current situation. With that said, good luck and play away!
