Shower sex in the movies is always so steamy, but for the rest of us - without a well-paidSwedish art director to decorate our sex lives in a soapy haze - the reality of shower sex can be just downright awkward. Body parts don't line up right, someone's getting all the nice warm water while the other freezes, and it's slippery in all the wrong parts (floor, walls, etc...), and not in the right parts. Water is a terrible lubricant, so you will definitely need lube. And not just any kind, but a water-resistant silicone based lube.

There are also a number of tedious safety considerations. From safety precautions to avoid slipping and falling, to careful toy selection so that all toys are 100% percent water safe, clearly there is a certain level of skill when it comes to shower sex. With that said, here's how to emerge from that shower clean, unhurt, and glowing:

1. Bent-Over Bather

Usually, simplicity is best when it comes to shower festivities. Make sure your feet are completely non-slippery. If you're a safety-first person, make sure you have a bath mat in the tub or get those textured pieces to place on the floor of the shower. Position: Bend over at the waist, spread your legs as needed, and hang onto to something sturdy. Penetration from behind in a standing doggie, holding you steady with their hands on your hips. Very primal feeling. One word: Hot.

2. The Super Soaker

Distracting thoughts about wasting water or holding an awkward position can get in the way of you actually having an orgasm. Put a handheld shower head into service, directing the stream between your partners legs as you enter while standing. The water pressure will provide exquisite pleasure and while keeping both parties warm and satisfied!

3. Rub-a-dub-RubDown

Now and then, we get stuck on the idea that sex = P in V only, which is just bonkers! Mutual masturbation is great at alltimes (way less chance of pregnancy or STI's + way more chance of getting the kind of stimulation you and your partner need). Try a variation with your partner standing behind you, either stroking themselves while you attend to yourself, or stroking each other. If you choose to use a body safe soap as lube, be careful of vaginal insertion and make sure it is pH balanced!

So, there you go! Three simple ideas to try next time a partner suggests having some fun in the shower. Now you can go in with the knowledge that there are possibilities of making the experience not only orgasmic, but safe and fun!
