Hello, adventurers! August means "Anal Season." We are here to tell you all about what's exciting in the world of anal!

So... What's the big deal about anal, anyway? A common question I hear in classes and from customers is simply "Why?" Well, there are a few things "doin' it in the butt" has going for it. First, as Amy likes to say, "The ass is the universal orifice!" Everyone has an ass, and by and large they tend to behave in similar ways. There's a lot of pleasure to be had with butts and buttholes. A common misconception is that anal sex is all about penetration, but the externally visible part of your anus has tons of nerve endings that respond really nicely to gentle stroking and pressure - with or without penetration. If you're wanting to try anal but are nervous about penetration, external stimulation is a great place to start. Hands, vibrators, or mouths - The anus is very sensitive to touch and all of these are great options. (Don't be afraid to bring in barriers like gloves and condoms if the concept of encountering poop gives you the heebie-jeebies.)

Generally speaking, your anal play shouldn't be painful. If anal penetration is painful to you, you're probably moving too quickly. It's okay to dial it back and return to purely external play. In addition to the question of internal vs. external stimulation, the ass is not self-lubricating, which can play a role in whether you experience pain. A great lubricant can go a long way to transform a mediocre sexcapade into a magical intimate space. I really encourage bringing out the lube regardless of whether penetrative play is in the picture! A great first foray into anal play could include rimming a partner with a good flavored lubricant and a dental dam, for instance.

Here at the store, we offer a number of resources on how to play with butts: Toys and lube galore; an online class, and an in-store workshop (usually paid, but offered free for this month only!) And of course, our wonderfully knowledgeable staff is here to help answer questions - Big or small.

If you've never tried anal play before, why not give it a whirl? You might be surprised! You can check out some of our many anal oriented toys here.
