Lollie Answers: Where to Meet People in the BDSM Community

Curiosity asks:

I'm fairly new to bondage but have been doing self-bondage for a couple of months now, and was wondering, where would be the best kind of place or environment to meet/ find someone to help me learn more and even indulge more towards this life style.

Dear Curiosity:

A great way to begin exploring BDSM is through your local community. Many places have a local group of kinksters that host a whole series of events, from meet-and-greet gatherings to classes on rope bondage, fire play, kinky crafts, etc. If you hear about an event called a "Munch", do your best to attend. The Munches are casual, public food outings that bring together kinksters from all around the area. They are a safe way to start meeting people and discussing your interests/questions. Getting involved with your local community will allow you to meet all kinds of people that would be willing to mentor you. To find your area's kink crew (and to get a brief glimpse into your fellow kinksters), check out Fetlife.com. This website is like a Facebook for the BDSM community. Search for groups in your region and check their event postings.

Best of luck exploring, and always stay safe!

XOXO,
Lollie

I’m currently reading Jay Wiseman’s Bondage Handbook and he warns that the overwhelming majority of bondage related fatalities are due to self bondage while alone. Please be careful, Curiosity. Also, I highly recommend the book.

Going to bondage workshops like the one Midori had at Pure Pleasure a while back are also good places to meet people interested in the topic.
