Sex is FUN, but it is also fascinating to study! Humans have sex to procreate and perpetuate the species, but we also do it for numerous other reasons. Some of the NEW books we’re stocking at Pure Pleasure explore the sociological, psychological, and relational aspects of sexuality.
For example:

Vagina by bestselling author Naomi Wolf explores the question “Could a profound connection between a woman’s brain and her experience of her vagina affect her greater sense of creativity—even her consciousness?” The book is a digestible exploration of the science behind sex involving vaginas—detailing the biology of female arousal. It includes discussion of artists, scientists, psychologists and other women to “to uncover the neuroscience, physiology and anecdotal evidence that show ‘what women really need’ in order to awaken their full potential.” Author, social critic, and political activist Naomi Wolf is a Yale graduate and a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford. Sex at Dawn: How We Mate, Why We Stray, and What it Means for Modern Relationships by Christopher Ryan, PhD and Cacilda Jetha, M.D. is a New York Times bestseller. Sex at Dawn questions assumptions and conclusions that we take for granted about love and sex by investigating our promiscuous past and questions like “why long-term fidelity can be so difficult for so many; why sexual passion tends to fade even as love deepens; what the human body reveals about the prehistoric origins of modern sexuality.” (quotes from  (http://chrisryanphd.com/about-sex-at-dawn/])

Mating in Captivity: Unlocking Erotic Intelligenceby Ester Perel explores the question “Why does great sex so often fade for couples who claim to love each other as much as ever?” Perel is a couples and family therapist in New York City. She explains that “sexual excitement doesn’t always play by the rules of good citizenship. It is politically incorrect. It thrives on power plays, unfair advantages, and the space between self and other. More “exciting, playful, even poetic sex is possible” in long-term relationships she argues. Mating in Captivity explores how we communicate, what we find intimate and erotic, and different ideas you can use to reinvigorate your own relationships. Secrets of Great Marriages: Real Truth from Real Couples about Lasting Loveby Charlie and Linda Bloom. In this book 27 couples who have been married an average of 30 years describe their own secrets to relationship success. You learn about their courtship and history, and both members describe their relationship from their own perspective in a dialogue. Many of us don’t have a lot of examples of successful long-term relationships in our lives—especially ones in which the couple are willing to share their wisdom (both the beautiful moments and the struggles). These couples have seen it all—infidelity, difficulties with children, financial ruin—but have deepened their relationships. [http://www.bloomwork.com/books.html]

Naked at Our Age: Talking Out Loud About Senior Sex by Joan Price. This book addresses senior sexuality: “the changes, the challenges, the disappointments, and the surprises, as well as the delights and the love stories.” In it you will read personal, honest stories from folks over 60 and advice and information from professionals. This book has something for everyone—coupled, single, gay, straight, man, woman. “No topic related to elder sexuality is off-limits.” (quotes from [http://www.joanprice.com/nakedatourage.html]).
